Fall of Singapore
Immediately after the declaration of war, Japanese army disembarked at Malay Peninsula and went south toward Singapore. Taking advantage of the naval dominance after the battle of Malayan Sea, it ran through allied nations' territories and occupied Kuala Lumpur on January 11th, 1942.
Marching from many directions, Japanese army gathered at Johor Bahru and moved across the sea to attack Singapore, 'the impregnable fortress'.
On February 9th, it deliberately disembarked at wetlands to outsmart allied forces. Around 60,000 Japanese soldiers and 130,000 allied forces fought indecisively for the first time. But when Japanese army got main water supply sources, allied forces asked for cease-fire, running out of food and ammunition, too.
Japanese Commander, General Tomoyuki Yamashita and Allied forces' General Officer Commanding Malaya, Lieutenant General Percival met and decided allied forces' surrender. Singapore, geographically critical site, was now under Japanese occupation.
