Battle of Midway
The objective of the Midway operation was to entice and hit US aircraft carriers by deliberately attacking Midway.
Japanese lineup was the largest-ever and overwhelmingly advantageous; 6 aircraft carriers, 11 battleships, 10 heavy cruisers, 6 light cruisers, 53 destroyers and 150 ships with 100,000 soldiers.
US lineup was 3 aircraft carriers, 7 heavy cruisers, 1 light cruisers, 15 destroyers and land-based aircrafts in Midway.
The first fleet led by Admiral Chūichi Nagumo started in advance on May 27th, 1942. On June 5th, it reached the destination and the first attack unit of 108 aircrafts took off to Midway.
However, it couldn't find the land-based aircrafts and only bombed base facilities. The captain thought that the attack was insufficient and sent a telegram to its flag ship 'Akagi' to ask for the second attack.
