WOMAN DIES IN PLUNGE
Body of Ex-Research Worker Lands Under Hudson Bridge
Miss Barbara S. Burks, 40 years old, of Walters Lane, Cold Springs Harbor, L.I., a former teacher and research worker at the laboratory of the department of genetics, Carnegie Institute of Washington, in Cold Springs Harbor, was killed at 7 P.M. yesterday when she fell or jumped from the George Washingon Bridge to the south roadway of Riverside Drive, 200 feet below.
Miss Burks was found by passersby who notified the police and her body was taken to the morgue, where it was later identified by Miss Marie Nyswander of 424 East Fifty-second street, a student acquaintance. No notes to indicate that the case was suicidal were found. A sister, Mrs. Frances Burks Newman, of Washington, survives.
